Sarnia Olympic Taekwondo offering online classes for beginners

Sarnia Olympic Taekwondo is helping local residents stay active and healthy during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The club is offering online beginners' classes, so those interested don't have to gather in the usual group setting.

Master Mark Warburton admits it's a bit different to teach online.

"It forces us as instructors to be more creative and find new ways to do things," he said. "And, there are certain things that obviously we aren't able to do that we used to do at the gym. It's not that big of a deal, everyone is still training for the most part. Actually, a lot of our students are training even more now because I have some that commute in from far away and now they're able to train four or five times per week."

Warburton said students are able to train with teams from across the world using Zoom chat.

He said they've been able to adapt well.

"A lot of the students have purchased pads, or you see them starting to add exercise mats on the floor and stuff like that. Everyone is kind of taking the time to adapt to it. There are a lot of challenges, but it opens the door for a lot of cool things when this is all over too."

Warburton said the first 30 days cost $30 per student. There are also some deals for families.
