Legionnaires sign a raft of rookies

The Sarnia Legionnaires are filling out their roster for the next Greater Ontario Jr. Hockey League season.

The club has announced the signings of forwards Austin Harper, Ryder Nienhuis, Bradyn Santavy, and Keegan Decaluwe along with defencemen Josh Hoover, Wesley Brooks, and Jack Stecho.

Harper, a 2020 Sarnia Sting 10th round draft pick, played for the Lambton Jr Sting AAA U16 team last season. The 16-year-old Wyoming native scored 16 goals and added 19 assists in 30 regular season games. He added seven goals and nine helpers in nine post season contests.

He also played four games as an affiliate player for the Legionnaires adding two assists in four games.

Nienhuis, a 16-year-old Sarnia native, played in 34 games with the Lambton Jr. Sting AAA U18 where he scored 17 goals and had six assists. He was held scoreless in three games with the Legionnaires.

Santavy is a 17-year-old from Forest who played with the Elgin Middlesex Chiefs U18 team last year. He had nine goals and 20 assists in 33 games and also dished out two assists in six games with the Legionnaires.

Decaluwe is from Port Franks and played with the North Middlesex Stars Jr C team last year. Over 40 games he had 15 goals and 21 assists.

Hoover, who was chosen by the Sudbury Wolves in the 10th round of the 2020 draft, played for the Lambton Jr Sting AAA U16 team last year. The 16-year-old Sarnia native scored nine goals and had 15 assists in 26 games.

Brooks is known as a stay at home defenceman who plays a tough, physical game. The Sarnia native played in 32 games for the Lambton Jr Sting AAA U18 team last year and had a goal and four assists. He also played as an affiliate player with the Legionnaires.

Stecho is a 17-year-old defenceman, originally from Thunder Bay. He played for the Goderich Flyers Jr C team last year putting up 19 points in 42 games.
