Lambton man arrested in connection with Kitchener shooting

A Lambton County man is now charged in connection with a shooting in Kitchener almost a year ago that left a man with life-altering injuries.

The Waterloo Regional Police said on June 24, 2019 shortly before 5:40 p.m., a man fired multiple rounds after a dispute with two other males escalated at a plaza in the area of Fairway Road South and Wilson Avenue. The shooter reportedly fled the scene before officers arrived.

A male who was involved in the dispute and two female bystanders were injured by the ensuing gunfire.

The male victim was rushed to an out-of-town hospital in critical condition. He was eventually released, however, his injuries were life-altering.

Both female victims were treated for non-life threatening injuries in hospital and released.

Following an investigation that utilized forensic evidence, police arrested a 22-year-old Lambton County man, who is known to the male victim, on Thursday.  Police said they are not looking for any other suspects.

The accused has been charged with three counts of aggravated assault, attempted aggravated assault, careless use of a firearm, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, carrying a concealed weapon, unauthorized possession of a firearm, and possession of a restricted firearm with ammunition.

The accused, whose name has not been released, will appear in Kitchener’s Ontario Court of Justice on Friday.
