Security firm marks 50th anniversary with hospice donation

A Sarnia-based security firm is marking 50 years in business by supporting the local pandemic fight.

Lyndon Security has donated $10,000 to the St. Joseph’s Hospice COVID-19 relief fund.

Lyndon President Ernie Hehn said the donation works out to $50 on behalf of each of their Lambton County employees.

"Certainly with the hospice, it's such an important part of the community, and I know they've had challenges with fundraising," said Hehn. "We had a number of events that we were trying to schedule [to celebrate 50 years], but that's not going to happen because of the COVID-19 pandemic, so we're in plans and process to do some other things, but the very first kick-off was to do this donation."

Managing Partner David Hehn said the hospice is a very important cause to support.

"Everyone's gone through situations where they have loved ones who are sick and in those types of situations, so I don't think there's a better place to support, especially because they have gone through some hardships and then you add COVID on top of that, this was kind of a no-brainer for us."

David said along with Sarnia, they have offices in Hamilton, St. Thomas and Welland, and they'll be doing the same types of donations in those areas as well.

St. Joseph's Hospice launched its COVID-19 relief fund at the beginning of May due to concerns about its ability to continue to care for those who need support.

Executive Director Larry Lafranier said as a charity, they rely almost entirely on donations and the generosity of the local community.
