Seventh COVID-19 death reported at Vision Nursing Home

Another resident at Sarnia's Vision Nursing Home has died due to COVID-19.

Lambton Public Health updated its website late Wednesday night to report the 22nd death in Sarnia-Lambton, and the seventh victim among residents at the long-term care home.

There are seven new confirmed cases of the virus, up to 261. Five of the new cases are linked to the Wellington Street facility where 24 residents and 24 staff members have now tested positive, since an outbreak was declared on April 23. Health officials say 15 of those cases have been deemed recovered.

Bluewater Health announced Wednesday that it has assumed a leadership role at the home in the battle against the virus.

Outbreaks are ongoing at three other long-term care homes, Marshall Gowland Manor, Village on the St. Clair and Lambton Meadowview Villa.

According to the health unit, five more people have recovered from the virus, bringing the total to 190.

To date, Lambton Public Health has received the results from 6,019 tests, of which 96 per cent have been negative.

On Wednesday, Bluewater Health reported that five patients are confirmed to have the virus and 16 are suspected of having it with tests pending.
