Environmental assessment for extension of Rapids Parkway to Exmouth

Plans to extend The Rapids Parkway to Exmouth Street are moving forward slowly but surely.

Sarnia's Development and Transportation Manager Alister Brown said they're undertaking an environmental assessment study.

It will examine the planned extension of The Rapids Parkway and Howard Watson Nature Trail from Sandpiper Drive to Exmouth Street under Highway 402.

"The environmental assessment process is an opportunity to make sure that you're compliant with a number of environmental regulations and that you are minimizing your impact to existing development areas," said Brown.

He said there is a preferred design outlined.

"We've proposed a roundabout at the intersection of Quinn Drive and the proposed Rapids Parkway and we are also proposing to modify, only slightly, the Howard Watson Trail under the overpass of the 402 and then provide as much separation between the trail and road extension as possible."

Brown said the design concepts will be available for public review and comment until June 5, 2020.

"It provides ample opportunity for public input on the process, on the design, it certainly allows the public to raise any concerns that they have with the concept and for us to try to address those as fast as we can moving forward."

Study team members will be monitoring and responding to submissions made at http://www.speakupsarnia.ca/.
