Sarnia flyovers honour veterans, front-line pandemic workers, Snowbirds (GALLERY)

Sarnia's 403 Honour Flight marked the 75th anniversary of VE Day, recognized front-line pandemic workers, and paid tribute to the Snowbirds Wednesday.

Five planes were in the air for about a half hour leaving Chris Hadfield Airport at around 10:30 a.m.

They flew over city nursing homes, circled Bluewater Health, and conducted a flyover of the Golden Hawk monument at Germain Park in honour of the Canadian Forces Snowbirds who lost a member in a crash in Kamloops B.C. May 17.

A planned 403 Honour Flight earlier in the month was postponed due to poor weather.

Flight Lead Mark Seibutis said those on the front lines battling COVID-19 deserve recognition.

“Just a thank you to them cause I mean they’re not soldiers but they are,” said Seibutis. “What they’re doing, they’re giving and sacrificing just like the soldiers did. My wife is a nurse, so I’m quite happy to do that too.”

The 403 Honour Flight is a group of local pilots who fly in formation over services, including Remembrance Day, as a show of respect and thanks to veterans and their families. They represent the Royal Canadian Air Force Sarnia 403 Wing.
