Sarnia police arrest two impaired drivers over long weekend

Impaired driving is getting the blame for two crashes over the weekend.

At around 5:15 a.m. Saturday, Sarnia police were called to a single-vehicle rollover on Churchill Line near Mandaumin Road.

They say the vehicle was in the ditch and completely destroyed. The driver, who didn't suffer any significant injuries, was still on scene.

Police said the driver failed a roadside breath test, and was taken to police headquarters for further testing.

A 19-year-old Sarnia man is charged with having a blood alcohol concentration of 80 plus.

A 43-year-old Walpole Island man is charged after a vehicle nearly struck another one head-on in the area of Tashmoo Avenue.

It happened at around 9:45 p.m. on Sunday.

Police received a call from a concerned citizen who was forced to veer onto the shoulder and was struck causing some damage.

Police said the suspect vehicle failed to stop, and the complainant followed it back into Sarnia.

The suspect parked in the area of George Street and Vidal Street, and walked away but was located by police a short time later. The driver allegedly blew over three times the legal limit.

The man is charged with impaired operation of a conveyance, operation of a conveyance with blood alcohol concentration of 80 plus, operation of a conveyance while prohibited under the Criminal Code of Canada, and four counts of breach of probation.
