UPDATE: Two more COVID-19 institutional outbreaks in Sarnia

Two more COVID-19 institutional outbreaks have been declared in Sarnia.

Lambton County announced Friday night that the administration team of Marshall Gowland Manor (MGM) was informed Friday that one of its 127 residents in the long-term care home had tested positive for COVID-19.  An active COVID-19 outbreak is declared if a home has at least one lab-confirmed case of the virus.

Lambton Public Health reported Saturday afternoon that an outbreak has also been declared at Sarnia's Village on the St. Clair on Front Street South, where two residents have tested positive for the virus.

The infected MGM resident was placed in isolation as soon as symptoms of illness were experienced, Lambton County officials said.

"We want to assure the people who live at Marshall Gowland Manor, their families and our staff, that their health and safety is our top priority. We are diligently following all of the policies and protocols put in place by the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of LongTerm Care to prevent the spread of COVID-19," said Jane Joris, the Long-Term Care Division general manager. "We are working closely with Lambton Public Health and following the guidance that is provided to us."

Visitors have been restricted at the Devine Street home since March 13, in accordance with the Ministry of Health guidelines. As well, all staff entering the home have been screened daily since March 9.

A total of six long-term care/retirement homes in Sarnia-Lambton have had outbreaks of COVID-19 declared since the pandemic began. An outbreak is ongoing at Vision Nursing Home in Sarnia, while outbreaks have since ended at Lambton Meadowview Villa in Petrolia, and at Landmark Village and Sumac Lodge in the city.

The outbreak at Landmark ended on May 6. There were a total of 40 cases at that facility, including 30 residents, and six deaths.
