'Drive by bottle drive' to raise funds for Inn

Volunteers are hoping to raise over $5,000 for the Inn of the Good Shepherd through a "drive by bottle drive" this week.

They'll be out in the community from Thursday to Saturday, collecting bottles and cans from people's front porches.

Those wishing to donate are asked to place a labelled bag or box on the front porch with the light on by 9 a.m.

Organizer Melanie Rogers said she expects people to have a lot more cans and bottles to donate because many have been at home during the pandemic.

"So far, from the response that we've been receiving, that is the case," she said. "We've had a lot of people reach out to us saying they have a large pickup. So, when people have a large pick up where they feel it would fill a pick-up truck, we'd ask them to contact us via email so that we can schedule a pickup specifically for their house."

Rogers said Thursday's collection will be in Point Edward, and north of Highway 402.

On Friday, they're focusing on south Sarnia (between Exmouth and Campbell streets). Saturday's pickups will be in the Corunna, Bright's Grove, Errol Village, Petrolia, Wyoming, and Aamjiwnaang areas.

Bottles can also be dropped off at the parking lot of the Inn of the Good Shepherd (Devine and John Streets) on Friday.

If you have a large pickup, you're urged to email drivebyfooddrive@gmail.com to make arrangements.
