UPDATE: Flyover honouring veterans, pandemic workers cancelled

A special flight over Sarnia Friday by a group of seven local pilots has been cancelled due to the weather.

The 403 Honour Flight was set to mark the 75th anniversary of the end of World War II in Europe, with a pass over the Sarnia Legion Branch 62.

Flight Lead Mark Seibutis said they were planning on flying over city nursing homes and the hospital in tribute to front-line workers in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. He said they're now working on rescheduling the flight.

"Just a thank you to them cause I mean they're not soldiers but they are," said Seibutis. "What they're doing, they're giving and sacrificing just like the soldiers did. My wife is a nurse, so I'm quite happy to do that too."

The group also conducted a flyover in Dresden Friday morning over the Cenotaph and Royal Canadian Legion Branch.
