United Way Compassion Fund supports YMCA, River City Vineyard

The River City Vineyard and YMCA Southwestern Ontario have each received $5,000 under the United Way's Compassion Fund.

River City will use the money toward its food bank and homeless shelter which has seen a recent drop in donations and an increase in need.

Funds will buy needed food, personal hygiene items, and cleaning supplies.

The YMCA said the Resource Houses in Sarnia will benefit from the funding. The centre serves youth aged four to 12 in three geared to income neighbourhoods in the city.

They receive two healthy meals and a nutritional snack each school day. Funds will be used to support the program youth and their families who are experiencing hunger, lack of supports and community engagement while community programs are on hold and unavailable.

A total of 17 local non-profit agencies have now benefitted from the fund, worth a total of $84,000.
