The Sarnia-Lambton United Way has launched a COVID-19 Seniors Response Fund.
It was made available with help from Employment and Social Development Canada.
The local share of the $9 million federal funding package is $50,530.
Executive Director Dave Brown said the funding is eligible for programs and services in the community that focus on vulnerable seniors, 55 years old and up.
The funding is going to be used for basic necessities for seniors, food, transportation that sort of thing," said Brown.
Brown said the deadline to apply is midnight Sunday, April 26.
"We're encouraging any community organization that is in good standing with CRA to apply, whether you're a funded agency of the United Way or not," he said. "You can apply for whatever it is that you need, $5,000, $10,000 or even $15,000."
To apply for funding, organizations can visit the United Way's website www.theunitedway.on.ca or give the office a call.
