Section of St. Clair Parkway closed as pandemic precaution

As of Good Friday, a section of St. Clair Parkway through Aamjiwnaang First Nation is closed as a precaution in the battle against COVID-19.

Aamjiwnaang Band Council ordered the closure of River Road to both northbound and southbound traffic between Churchill Line and LaSalle Line until further notice.

Southbound traffic can proceed as far as the Suncor gate entrance.

Only residents of Aamjiwnaang can continue further.

Northbound traffic from LaSalle Line on River Road is restricted to Aamjiwnaang residents only.

Chief Christopher Plain said the closure is another way the community can protect itself from COVID-19 and "flatten the curve."

"What we're noticing is that Aamjiwnaang seems to be quite the destination for a lot of traffic," said Plain. It's really not through traffic we're concerned with but those who are making their way here for whatever reason. Really we're just trying to do our part to stop the flow of traffic that we don't believe is necessary or essential."

Chief Plain said the road will be closed to all but essential services such as grocery and pharmacy deliveries, regular mail, and any type of home maintenance services.
