Wealthy Barber author Chilton catalyst for Inn donations

The Wealthy Barber author and former dragon on CBC's show Dragons' Den has launched a campaign to raise money for Sarnia's Inn of the Good Shepherd.

David Chilton, who calls Sarnia home, is asking residents to donate to the Inn if they're able, and he'll match the first $10,000 raised.

"It's so tough for the food banks across the country right now because they can't execute their fundraisers, obviously, at the same time their demand is through the roof," said Chilton.

"So many people have lost jobs and are struggling because of the pandemic, so it really is a tough mix and I thought we'd try to reach out. Arlene Dickinson started the initiative out in Calgary and had some success with this so yesterday on Twitter, I said that I'd match the first $10,000 in donations and it's amazing how responsive the community has been. Not surprising, Sarnia's got a great community spirit and a lot of caring people."

Chilton said the campaign is already on its way to raising tens of thousands of dollars.

"We're going to go past the $10,000 but we need as much money as we can possibly get. It's an ongoing need, because, for so many people who are taking advantage of the Inn of the Good Shepherd's offerings right now, they need the help."
