Curbside large item collection cancelled in Sarnia in April

The City of Sarnia has cancelled the curbside collection of large items in April to limit the risk of worker exposure to COVID-19.

Operations Manager Bryan Prouse said they're offering some alternatives instead.

From Monday, April 6 to Saturday, April 18, bulk items can be taken to Transco Recycling for disposal.

Prouse said residents must bring identification to the site, at 387 McGregor Side Road, to prove they're a Sarnia resident.

Further instructions can be found here.

Prouse said regular curbside waste and recycling collection will continue and residents are asked to follow some precautions to keep garbage and recycling collectors safe.

The city asks that all waste be securely bagged and tied, and residents avoid using garbage bins if your garbage is tightly stuffed in the container.

Prouse said the bags may rip during removal.

If there is reason to suspect recycled items may be contaminated with COVID-19, residents are asked to put those items in the garbage and make sure the bags are securely tied.

Prouse reminds residents that tissues, paper towels, napkins, plastic foam and plastic bags are not recyclable and should be put in the garbage.

Residents are also asked to ensure recyclables are free of liquids and food waste.
