Kettle & Stony Point chief says stay away, access restricted

With the spring weather upon us, cottagers are being told to stay away from Kettle & Stony Point First Nation for the time being.

Chief Jason Henry said four of six access roads into the First Nation have been closed to try to limit the number of visitors due to COVID-19.

He said it's now only accessible at the intersections of Indian Lane and West Ipperwash Road, and at London Road and Centre Road, and there's health screening taking place at those intersections.

Chief Henry said there's one confirmed case of COVID-19 on the First Nation, and the elder population is extremely vulnerable.

"I'd certainly want to be close to my family, to my support systems, and to my primary healthcare provider," said Henry. "I would not want to overload anyone else's healthcare system, so that's just good manners to stay where you have support and not go somewhere else."

The chief said most of the community's businesses have voluntarily shut down for a two week period to limit the spread.

He said now isn't the time to go to the beach or get together with friends and browse stores.

He also thanked everyone who has been cooperative and heeding their requests.
