Lambton Public Health updates travel advisory, recommends daycares close

Lambton Public Health issued updated travel advisories late Sunday afternoon and recommended the closure of all daycares and day camps.

The local health authority said it continues to actively monitor the developing COVID-19 situation, in collaboration with national and provincial health agencies, as well as local stakeholders, including hospitals and community agencies.

As of 5:14 p.m. Sunday it said there were no confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Lambton County.

Lambton Public Health recommends that all non-essential travel outside of Canada be avoided and that all travellers returning to Canada, including a quick trip across the border, self-isolate at home for 14 days whether they have symptoms or not. All essential travel related to work remained exempt for now.

The health unit said the guidance for COVID-19 testing no longer considers country of travel; but focuses instead on prioritization of those at highest risk, and new guidance will be provided soon.

The agency said that new information now warrants the recommended closure of all daycares and day camps until schools return to operation.

Residents are asked to continue to practice social distancing by limiting interaction with groups of people in closed settings. "We realize the next few weeks will present challenges but pulling together as a community to limit the spread of illness is a top priority. Providing capacity in our healthcare system to respond is essential," the news release said.
