Free retail space available in annual SLBDC contest

The Sarnia-Lambton Business Development Corporation is once again helping local entrepreneurs get a leg up in the industry.

The organization's Win This Space contest is back for another year, and is bigger than ever before.

General Manager Don Anderson said the winner will still get free retail or office space for a year, but there are now some other perks as well.

"Southwest Credit Union has come on board with us, and they had a program that they ran over the past two years called 'Fund Your Hustle,'" said Anderson. "That provided $5,000 for a business toward costs. So, we're going to fund the lease and they're going to fund the leasehold improvements, fixturing, whatever the winner would require. CR Creative has also come on board to provide signage and some marketing support."

Anderson said the grand prize also includes a free one-year business banking account and a year membership to the Sarnia-Lambton Chamber of Commerce.

There will also be a $1,000 people's choice award sponsored by Bluewater Power.

Lovewell Birth Collective and Wellness Centre won last year's contest.

Since it was first launched in 2017, three others have won a free year lease on a commercial space — Culture Shock Kombucha, The River Osteopathy & Wellness Center in Sarnia, and The Couples Clinic in Sarnia.

Registration closes on March 13, and the winner will be announced on May 14 during an event at the Lambton Event Centre.
