Green initiatives being funded in Petrolia

Petrolia residents are being encouraged to think green.

The town, along with Waste Management, is offering $150,000 over 10 years for projects that beautify the town.

Waste Management wants to offset four times the greenhouse gas emissions we generate through operations by 2038.

Director of Facilities Dave Menzies said good examples of projects include trees, pocket parks, landscaping, litter reduction, reusable bottles, and compost.

"There are a couple of goals that Waste Management and the Town of Petrolia are looking into," said Menzies. "Obviously, the planet is one. We want to watch those greenhouse gas emissions. The other is people. We want to make sure the communities that we live in are sustainable for future generations."

Each applicant can request up to $15,000 in one time, non-repayable funding.
