Check alarm batteries as we spring forward this weekend

We spring forward this weekend.

Daylight Saving Time begins on Sunday at 2 a.m.

Public Education Officer Mike Otis said the biannual time change is a good time to remind residents to replace batteries in smoke alarms

"We always say when you change your clocks, change your batteries," said Otis. "It's just a good time to remember that you need to change your smoke alarm batteries and test your smoke alarms. You should also check how old they are. You want to replace any smoke alarms that are 10 years old or older."

Otis said you should also test your CO alarms.

All homes and apartments with a fuel-burning appliance or attached garage in Ontario are required by law to have a CO alarm for face a fine.

The time change this weekend means darkness will set later in the evening. Daylight Saving Time ends on Sunday, November 1.
