Weather and road conditions force bus cancellations

A special weather statement for Sarnia-Lambton ended early Thursday morning, after a low pressure system moved through the area.

The Texas low dumped about 15 centimetres, six inches, of snow that was blown around on gusty northerly winds Wednesday afternoon and evening.

School buses in all zones, 1 through 8, are cancelled Thursday due to poor road and weather conditions.

OPP dealt with a number of single-vehicle collisions on Highway 402 Wednesday, mostly vehicles sliding off the highway into the ditch.

Motorists were being reminded to slow down and drive according to the conditions.

The MTO reported the 402 between Sarnia and Nauvoo Road was mostly snow covered with partly snow covered sections.

There was a blowing snow advisory in effect for London-Middlesex Thursday morning.

Environment Canada expected poor visibility at times Thursday with winds west to northwesterly winds up to 60 kilometres an hour.

Further east and into the Greater Toronto Area, snowfall warnings and winter storm advisories were posted because of the slow-moving system.
