Sting lose in Sudbury in back-and-forth game

The Sarnia Sting lost to the Wolves 5-3 in Sudbury Friday.

Sudbury jumped out to an early lead when Blake Murray (23) scored at the 2:17 mark of the opening period.

Brayden Guy (12) tallied for the Sting to tie the game near the midway mark of the period but the Wolves would restore their lead on a goal from David Levin (25).

In the second period Jacob Perreault scored his team-leading 33rd goal for Sarnia on the power play with an assist from Jamieson Rees at the 4:16 mark.

Jack Thompson put Sudbury back in the lead seven minutes into the period.

Guy (13), with his second goal of the game scored on the power play to even the score again with assists Ryan Roth and Rees.

Murray scored the winning goal at 12:14 of the third period and added his third of the game into an empty Sarnia net.

Brayden Guy felt the Sting played well. "From a team standpoint I thought we gave them a good game. That's a good team on the other side. That was a good effort but unfortunately we didn't get the two points."

Sarnia's Benjamin Gaudreau stopped 31 of 35 shots while Christian Purboo made 28 save for the OHL's Central Division leading Wolves.

The Sting are home to Flint in the annual Family Day game Monday at 2:05 p.m.
