Legionnaires fall to Flyers 9-1

Having home-ice advantage didn't help the Sarnia Legionnaires as they fell to the second-place Flyers 9-1 on Saturday night.

Sarnia entered Saturday's game with some momentum having just won back-to-back games against the Chatham Maroons this past week. However, Leamington's Nick Smith scored the first two goals, giving the Flyers the lead as they went into the second period. Smith scored again in the second.

Nolan DeGurse scored the first and only goal for the Legionnaires in the second period. Leamington's Jacob Kalandyk, Maddux Rychel, Wyatt O`Neil then scored three more goals for the Flyers.

The two teams went into the third period with Leamington leading 6-1. Griffin Robinson scored two for the Flyers in the third and assisted in a goal made by Rychel.

Sarnia is currently in seventh place in the GOJHL's western conference standings.

The Legionnaires will be able to rest on Sunday before they hit the ice again on Family Day Monday to face the St. Marys Lincolns. Puck drop is set for 1:30 p.m.

The Leamington Flyers are also in action on Monday as they face the Komoka Kings at 1:15 p.m.
