Legionnaires edge Maroons in double OT

Nolan DeGurse scored in double overtime as the Sarnia Legionnaires beat the visiting Chatham Maroons 5-4 in GOJHL hockey play.

Legionnaires goalie Nolan DeKoning was outstanding, making 53 saves on 57 shots faced.

Chatham led 3-1 in the second period, before Sarnia scored two quick goals to tie it.

The Maroons jumped ahead 4-3 with just 28 seconds remaining in the second. The Legionnaires tied the game back up just over five minutes into the third.

The first overtime was scoreless, but DeGurse lit the lamp 21 seconds into the fifth period to win it.

Josh Barraclough scored and dished out three assists, while Aidan Letang and Joe Ferrera added singles.

Ben Schoch had three helpers in the contest.

Brett Fisher led the way for Chatham with a hat trick and an assist, Carson Noble also lit the lamp.

The Legionnaires sit 7th place in the Western Conference with 38 points, two back of Strathroy and 11 ahead of last-place St. Thomas.

Sarnia is back in action on Saturday night at home to the Leamington Flyers at the Brock Street Barn.
