Warwick Township property taxes rising 3.5 per cent

Warwick council has approved a 2020 budget that raises taxes 3.5 per cent.

Chief Administrative Officer Amanda Gubbels said the increase amounts to an extra $10.79 for every $100,000 of residential assessment on the municipal portion of the property tax bill.

Five million of Warwick's $7.3 million capital budget will be directed to construction of the new community hall in Watford.

Crews will repave Scenic Drive and lay a second coat of asphalt on Scenic Court.

Five bridge and culvert improvement projects are planned and a new pumper/tanker truck is being purchased for the Watford Fire Station.

Funding to hire a full-time Economic Development Officer is included in the $10.5 million operating budget. Gubbels said the position will help implement council's vision of being a developing community.

She said the budget also addresses police service cost increases and a decrease in funding from the Ontario Municipal Partnership Fund.
