No report cards for public elementary students

Elementary students across the Lambton Kent District School Board will not be getting report cards this term.

Director of Education John Howitt notified parents and guardians Wednesday.

"Due to the ongoing provincial contract negotiations and legal strike action involving the Elementary Teachers' Federation of Ontario [ETFO], Kindergarten Communication of Learning and Term 1 report cards [Grades 1-8] will not be issued for elementary students," said Howitt.

He said the absence of the report cards will not impact ongoing learning.

"It is our experience that communication with parents/guardians regarding your child's progress has been ongoing throughout the school year. Parents/guardians are encouraged to contact their child's teacher(s) at this time and/or any time throughout the school year for updates on the student's academic achievement and well-being."

Strikes are planned by Ontario's public elementary teachers at various school boards across the province every day this week.

No Lambton-Kent schools have been involved yet.

The Elementary Teachers Federation of Ontario (ETFO) announced Wednesday that the rotating strikes will go on for a second week. Schools in Simcoe, Waterloo, Keewatin-Patricia and Penetanguishene will be closed on Monday, January 27.
