Significant damage at Princess Auto, driver charged with impaired

A 20-year-old Sarnia man is charged with drug-impaired driving after a pickup truck slammed into Princess Auto on Monday.

Police said just before 10 p.m., a vehicle that was travelling north on Lambton Mall Road, struck the median and knocked over a street sign. It continued across Quinn Drive, drove over the curb onto the grassy area in front of Princess Auto and into the parking lot. The truck then struck a cart corral, reversed, and drove forward into the front windows of the store causing significant damage.

The store was closed at the time.

The driver allegedly stepped out of the vehicle and started to walk away from the scene.

Officers found the man in the area and called paramedics to tend to his minor injuries.

While the suspect was being treated, it's alleged a brief struggle ensued, but the man was quickly brought under control.

There were employees in the store at the time, but none of them were injured.
