Weekend Vidal Street closure for Imperial pipe bridge construction

The familiar blue pipe rack across Vidal Street soon won't be the only pipe bridge across that section of road running through Chemical Valley.

To the north, Imperial plans to begin construction of an overhead pipe bridge at 6 p.m. Friday.

Vidal Street re-opened between Kenny Street and Clifford Street early Monday morning.

Imperial Public and Government Affairs Manager Kristina Zimmer said the bridge will enhance the safety and reliability of several product pipelines that are currently underground.

"This is a brand new pipe bridge that is being brought in and the lines are currently running underground beneath the roadway, so they'll be relocated within the pipe bridge and that bridge is being installed this weekend," said Zimmer. "When the lines are above ground, obviously there's the advantage of immediate access and immediate visual inspection of those particular lines."

The bridge will look similar to the existing structure over Vidal Street just north of Churchill Road.

Motorists are urged to pay attention to detour signs in the area, or find an alternate route.

The posted detour route will be Churchill Road/Highway 40 to Indian Road to Confederation Line.

Imperial has received municipal approvals to proceed with the project.
