A community in Lambton County is hoping to score $250,000, and an NHL preseason game, in the 2020 Hockeyville competition.
Mooretown recently launched a bid in the annual, nationwide competition in support of the Moore Sports Complex Renewal Campaign.
Mooretown Minor Hockey Coach Geoff Dale said if they win, the money would go a long way.
"We have to replace our refrigeration system, do accessibility upgrades, several upgrades. The entire project is about a $35 million project, so the funds would definitely be welcomed," he said. "Mooretown Hockey has 400 [skaters] but the facility also has ice skating, figure skating, and a pool and all that as well, so it's not just hockey that uses it."
Since 2006, Hockeyville has awarded $3.5 million to 81 communities who have demonstrated their commitment and passion to the sport of hockey -- the competition has also hosted 13 NHL preseason games across Canada.
Dale said Mooretown's campaign is off to a good start.
"We kicked it off pretty much a week or so ago, we're at about 350 stories so far. Dustin Jeffrey, who just won the Spengler Cup with Canada, did a personalized video."
Dale said Cassidy Blunt, a professional women's player, also sent in a video.
