2019 building activity in Sarnia ends with a bang

Sarnia's building stats ended 2019 with a bang.

The permit for Tricar Group's 15-storey, 123-unit apartment tower on the former Sarnia Gazette property was issued by city hall in December.

The permit to London-based Carvest Properties Limited for 275 Front St. N, amounts to $28.5 million.

A $7.3 million permit was issued for Lambton College's two-storey addition to the south building in the area of the pedestrian bridge entrance, and there was another sizeable permit for Lambton Mall. It's for $944,000 for an Old Navy store.

There were 554 building permits issued last year with a total value of about $110.4 million. December's $41.8 million pushed the yearly total beyond the $92.9 million recorded in 2018.

Permits for single-family homes ended the year well behind 2018's pace. There were six in December for a yearly total of 58, compared to 83 last year.
