Gallery in the Grove is celebrating 40 years of showcasing local artists with the opening of a new, special exhibit Sunday.
"Connexions," which runs from January 12 to February 22, will feature works from over 30 artists, including Jane Hunter, Ian McLean, Mary Groombridge, Leonard Segall and many more.
Volunteer Chairperson Kirsten Kilner-Holmes said the exhibit will also showcase local artists who've received support from Gallery in the Grove in the past.
"Ben Skinner, who now lives in Vancouver, he is part of the instillation in the Judith & Norman Alix Art Gallery, the 'Show Me With Your Arms How Much,' that's his, he actually won a scholarship back in the 1980s from us, and moved on to a very successful professional art career."
Kilner-Holmes said the exhibit is about artists who've shared in the 40-year evolution of the gallery.
She said they're very proud to have showcased many young and up-and-coming artists over the years.
"It gives them exposure, it gives them some recognition to move into bigger art opportunities, and the sales, we received 25 per cent commission, those sales actually go into our educational programs," said Kilner-Holmes. "So as part of our Visiting Artists In Lambton Schools (VAILS) program, we hire three artists to go into grade six classrooms across Sarnia-Lambton and they deliver an art project that is in line with the Ontario arts curriculum."
Kilner-Holmes said they're also now accepting submissions for their Faces, Places, Spaces: A Canadian Perspective exhibition -- the deadline to submit is February 17.
