Volunteers needed for Celebration of Lights teardown

Residents with trucks and flatbed trailers are asked to help with the dismantling of Sarnia's Celebration of Lights displays on Saturday.

There are over 30 displays that need to be taken down and transported to Sandrin Services for summer storage.

Spokesperson Paula Taylor said volunteers should meet at the Suncor Agora in Centennial Park at 9 a.m.

Students are encouraged to bring their high school volunteer sheets to get signed.

"It usually takes until probably around noon," said Taylor. "There will be coffee and hot chocolate and treats, but we won't be having a lunch that day."

The Celebration of Lights arch across Front Street was taken down earlier this week.

The 35th annual event lit up Centennial Park every night between November 23 and January 1.

Security guards from Hughes Intelligence stepped up to protect the displays after they were targeted by vandals in early December.
