Lambton, Cestar colleges mourning tragic loss of Toronto instructors

Two instructors at a Toronto college, which has close ties to Lambton College, were killed in a plane crash in Iran.

Cestar College of Business, Health and Technology Director Michael Vourakes shared the unfortunate news Wednesday.

In a message to instructors, staff and administration, Vourakes said Mohsen Salahi and Mahsa Amirliravi were on their way back to Canada from Iran when Ukraine International Flight PS752 crashed.

He said both instructors had been part of the faculty for three years in the Quality Engineering Management, Construction Project Management and Chemical Laboratory Analysis programs.

"Mohsen and Mahsa were fantastic teachers, touching countless students’ lives during their time here at the college. But they were also tremendous individuals, forming strong bonds with many staff and faculty, and they will be greatly missed by fellow instructors, the academics team, and the college as a whole," said Vourakes.

He said their hearts and thoughts are with their families and friends, particularly Salahi's brother and Amirliravi's brother-in-law, who is a fellow faculty member at the college.

Lambton and Cestar College have been in partnership since 2011.

Cestar donated $4 million dollars toward Sarnia's share of the cost of an oversize load corridor in October.

Four Western students also died and at least five University of Windsor students and researchers are believed to be among those killed in the crash.
