Anita Hobbs had lifelong passion for dance, multiculturalism

A well known Sarnian who shared the gift of dance and was a tireless community volunteer has died.

Anita Hobbs passed away at Hospice Simcoe, Barrie December 17 at the age of 90.

Born in London, England, Hobbs attended the Royal Academy of Ballet. She moved to Canada in 1966 and settled in Sarnia where she opened the Sarnia School of Dance that she taught at until age 86.

Hobbs organized Sarnia's Canada Day celebrations for 51 years, was a founding member of the Sarnia Folk Arts Council, a member of the Sarnia Police Services Board, and a member of the University Women's Club.

Her volunteer work earned her the Silver Jubilee and Trillium Award from the province of Ontario.

A service celebrating Hobbs' life will be held in Sarnia in the spring.

Memorial donations to Hospice Simcoe, Barrie, St. Joseph's Hospice, or the charity of choice would be appreciated by the family.
