LKDSB high schools to close Dec. 18 if walkout proceeds

The Lambton Kent District School Board said Friday its high schools will close next Wednesday if members of the Ontario Secondary School Teachers Federation (OSSTF) follow through with plans for another one-day strike.

In a contract negotiation update, posted online Friday afternoon, the board said if a settlement is not reached and the one-day, full strike proceeds, public secondary schools will be closed to students on December 18 and will reopen Thursday, December 19, 2019.

It would be the third one-day strike in as many weeks by OSSTF members.

The board said again that it's hopeful an agreement will be reached, and the action will be avoided.

All LKSSAA athletic activities scheduled for Wednesday have been cancelled and will be rescheduled.

The strike will affect dozens of French-language elementary schools where some workers are represented by the OSSTF.

Public elementary schools in Lambton-Kent will be open as usual Wednesday, December 18.

Hundreds of public high school teachers across Lambton-Kent hit the picket lines on December 4 as part of a one-day walkout by OSSTF members across Ontario.
