Area police collecting toys, food for families in need

Sarnia police are looking to cram a cruiser with donated gifts Saturday.

A police cruiser will be set up inside Lambton Mall near the atrium of Toys R Us from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.

Cst. Nelson Amaral said it's the seventh annual Holiday Hero Cram a Cruiser event which has been a huge success in previous years.

The police service is teaming up again with the Inn of the Good Shepherd's Adopt a Family Program to make sure every child they can reach has a gift to open on Christmas Day.

Cst. Amaral said over the last number of years they've been able to exceed the needs of their charity partners and have shared donated gifts with other charity groups.

There will be a donation wish list on site at Lambton Mall or people can donate a gift of their choice.

Lambton OPP officers are also collecting food and toys this weekend.

Food, cash or toys can be dropped off at the Corunna detachment at 392 Lyndoch St. from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Saturday.

The collection is being done in conjunction with Operation Christmas Tree, supported by the Optimist Club of Moore.

Officers will also be at Forest Foodland Saturday and at the Petrolia Independent Grocer and Forest Canadian Tire stores Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m.

Donations of food and toys will be distributed to families through the Petrolia and Forest food banks.
