Vandals hit Celebration of Lights again

Sarnia's Celebration of Lights displays have been targeted by vandals once again.

Organizer Cathie Blake said Thursday night, for the second time in three days, someone cut power cords in Centennial Park.

She said it's extremely disappointing because volunteers worked hard to put them up.

"Extension cords, the heavy ones, are very expensive," said Blake. "It's really a kick in the butt for all of us that have put in so many hours, raised the money, people that have given money. It's really, really disheartening."

Blake said the lights will go on as normal this weekend. They'll be buying some new power cords so the show can go on.

Since they don't have security, she's encouraging residents to keep an eye out for suspicious activity.

The displays were also targeted in 2017 when someone smashed them and broke bulbs.

Anyone who witnessed the vandalism is asked to call Sarnia police or Crime Stoppers.
