New home sales drive real estate market higher

New home sales continue to drive the real estate market higher in Sarnia-Lambton.

Real Estate Board President Donna Mathewson said the average sale price continues to trend higher.

"We've got new home development in Sarnia, Plympton-Wyoming, some in Enniskillen, and some in St. Clair and the new homes have increased," said Mathewson. "The cost of building a new home increases quite regularly. Builders will get notifications two or three times during the year, at least, of increases in wood, increases in drywall and increases in skilled trades."

Mathewson said average sale prices have increased about $25,000 in St. Clair Township and Enniskillen Township and are up by about $50,000 in Plympton-Wyoming.

Across Sarnia-Lambton the average sale price so far this year is nearly $336,000 with 132 properties worth just over $41 million selling in November.

Dollar volume for the year is over $571 million, an all-time record, with December's numbers still to come.
