Blazing new trail to Lambton College

If you've travelled down Finch Drive south of London Road recently, you've likely noticed the new multi-use trail running behind Petro Canada and the Metro grocery store.

Sarnia Director of Engineering David Jackson said the path, along the Bissell-McArthur Drain, is an asphalt extension of the Howard Watson Nature Trail to Lambton College.

"We see this as a major commuter route for students and employees at the college and so we wanted to allow them to use it year-round, so we'll look at clearing the snow off it in the winter, which we couldn't do on a gravel trail, and also if someone's commuting by bike this would make it easier to travel to the college."

Jackson said plans for a pedestrian crossover on Finch are still being finalized, but it should be installed by the end of the year.

An Ontario Municipal Commuter Cycling Program grant paid for most of the Bluewater Trails committee project.
