Petrolia firefighters unveil brand new truck

Firefighters in Petrolia have a new toy.

The Petrolia and North Enniskillen Fire Department has purchased a new ladder truck, named Tower 13.

Deputy Fire Chief Darren Allan said the $1.28 million truck will service the community for the next 25 to 30 years.

"This is brand new. This is replacing a 25-year-old Freightliner 65 foot ladder truck," said Allan. "The new truck has a 110-foot long ladder with a platform on the end of it so we can safely take three firefighters up on the platform to conduct operations at a fire scene or high-angle rescue."

Allan said the brand new truck originated at Pierce Manufacturing out of Appleton, Wisconsin and was purchased through a local Canadian representative in Woodstock.

He said firefighters will be undergoing training on the new truck within the next week or so, before it goes into service.

The town will be able to get a closer look at Tower 13 during the Santa Claus Parade on Saturday, December 7.
