Gladu remains Tory critic for health

Conservative Leader Andrew Scheer has once again named Sarnia-Lambton MP Marilyn Gladu the Shadow Minister of Health.

On Friday, Gladu announced on Twitter that she was resuming the role first given to her by Scheer in August 2017 -- Scheer posted his full Shadow Cabinet on Facebook.

Gladu said she's excited to get back to work on the portfolio next week in Ottawa.

"I intend to sit on the health committee, so any of the legislation that speaks to health issues that comes to the committee will be part of what I bring the party position and educate the party on," she said. "We expect to see some changes coming forward to the assisted-dying legislation that may come to health, that will be an interesting file. The government has a plan to implement pharmacare in some way, so I'll be working on that, and of course, continuing to try to get a plan for the aging demographic."

Gladu said she was able to accomplish a lot in her first two years as the Official Opposition Critic for Health.

"I was able to bring the member's bill on palliative care that will affect the lives of millions of Canadians, to get that consistent access across the country," said Gladu. "As well, I was there to give advice on the legalization of marijuana, the vaping legislation that came through, and a number of other initiatives, like the Lyme disease framework."

Earlier this year, Gladu was re-elected to serve a second term as Sarnia-Lambton’s member of parliament.
