Gamers 'Trapped in the Mall' for charity

A group of local video gamers is locking themselves in Lambton Mall for 24 hours this weekend, for a good cause.

The fifth annual Trapped in the Mall charity event starts at 2 p.m. Friday, with the hope of raising $3,000 toward St. Clair Child and Youth Services.

Organizer and K106.3 Morning Show Host Max Major said they've set up a makeshift living room provided by The Brick.

He said it's been a very popular fundraiser.

"For people who are into video games or nerd culture in general, a lot of them have started to save their money all year round and then donate it through this initiative," said Major. "It's been really neat to see the nerd community coming together to help out."

Major said they'll be playing a variety of games including Super Smash Brothers, Mario Party, and NHL 20.

The fun starts at 2 p.m. Friday and wraps up at 2 p.m. on Saturday. District Beta also has a virtual reality booth for spectators to enjoy.

During the past four years, over $12,000 has been raised for different local children's charities including Big Brothers Big Sisters and Noelle's Gift.

You can make a donation in person, or online at playingforcharity.com, there's also a live stream available at twitch.tv.
