OPP encouraging online reporting of minor crimes
The OPP is encouraging residents to report minor crimes online to free up police resources for emergencies.
That includes things like theft, mischief, and property damage under $5,000, driving complaints, and lost or missing property.
Staff Sgt. Carolle Dionne said crimes such as break and enters, weapons offences, and assaults still have to be called in.
Dionne said the OPP received over 2 million 911, non-emergency and administrative calls in 2018. She said officers were dispatched to about 1.05 million of those calls, which take away from urgent matters.
