Gladu undaunted by limited regional representation in Liberal cabinet

Sarnia-Lambton's MP is eager to get back to work.

Marilyn Gladu isn't expecting a lack of southwestern Ontario representation in cabinet to impact her job.

"Southwestern Ontario elected a lot of Conservatives, so I'm not surprised they're not represented in cabinet, but I would say from those that did get put into cabinet, many of them I've got good relations with and that should bode well for Sarnia-Lambton," said Gladu. "I look forward to working with many of them and we'll see what happens in terms of the critic positions, which should be announced late next week."

Gladu has served as the Official Opposition critic for health and science, and was a chair of the Standing Committee on the Status of Women.

"I'm happy to serve in whatever role Andrew [Scheer] would have me serve in. The health role was very interesting to me, but I enjoyed the science role as well, with my background. So, I'm open to new challenges, but I'd be prepared to be again at health, because I think there's important work to do there."

Gladu was officially sworn-in to the 43rd Parliament this week.

"I've already contacted all of the ministers that have portfolios that have the pockets of money that we're going to be needing for affordable housing, for our recovery beds for addiction and a number of things like that."

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau only named one southwestern Ontario MP to his cabinet, Waterloo MP Bardish Chagger, who was named minister of diversity, inclusion and youth.

The next session of Parliament begins on December 5.
