Sting lose in Mississauga

The Mississauga Steelheads defeated the visiting Sting 6-2 in Ontario Hockey League play Friday.

The game was tied 1-1 after the first period on goals by the Steelheads' William Portokalis and the Sting's Ryan Roth (10).

Jacob Perrault and Ryan McGregor assisted on the power play goal with seven seconds left on the clock.

38 seconds into the second period Sarnia's Colton Kammerer was assessed a four minute high sticking penalty that resulted in a power play marker by the Steelhead's Keean Washkurak

Ty Collins tallied for Mississauga late in the period.

Waskurak scored a short handed goal four minutes into the third period.

At the 8:01 mark Jamieson Rees (11) scored for Sarnia assisted by Sean Josling.

Portokalis and Thomas Harley then scored for Mississauga.

Sarnia associate coach Brad Staubitz said "We came in here and we weren't ready to compete. We've got to prepare for every game. We know it's going to be hard to win but now we've got to get back and realize every game we've got to put our best foot forward"

Staubitz said staying out of the penalty box was an issue.

"Six or seven times we were down a man. We were sloppy with the puck, too. I felt our transition game wasn't clean carrying the puck through the neutral zone."

The loss ended the Sting's five-game winstreak.

"It is something you want to get behind you and get back to the way we were playing. That happens when you get winning those games you start to maybe cheat a bit and I think that was part of it"

Sarnia goalie Jordan Kooy stopped 44 of 50 shots while Steelhead's netminder Kai Edmonds turned aside 24 shots.

The Sting host the Ottawa 67's Sunday at 4:05 p.m. The pregame show starts at 3:35 p.m. on 103.9 FM - 1070 AM CHOK.
