Sarnia Olympic Taekwondo celebrates opening of new space

Sarnia Olympic Taekwondo is celebrating the grand opening of its brand new location on Saturday. The centre has moved from East Street to 1272 London Road beside the Dragon Palace restaurant.

Owner and Instructor Mark Warburton said the new space is a bit smaller, but it has its benefits.

"I like it better because it's not so spaced out," said Warburton. "I feel like I can run classes more efficiently than I could before. It's not too small, it's not crowded but the energy is better than I felt that it was because the camaraderie is just a bit more intimate . Everyone is in a smaller space which makes it easier to teach."

Warburton said Taekwondo teaches a number of valuable life lessons including discipline , confidence, goal setting and leadership.

He said they offer classes for all ages, starting at four years old and family classes are also available.

"99.9 per cent of people that call have no experience in Taekwondo. Beginners are encouraged. Some people may be a little intimidated but everybody is a beginner when they first start. I was a beginner when I started. Anyone who is a champion or master was a beginner when they first started."

There's also a promotion running where new students can get a 50 day trial for $50 while spaces last.

Saturday's ceremony is being held at 12:30 p.m. and Sarnia Mayor Mike Bradley will be on hand for a ribbon cutting.
