Tribute to honour Sarnia athlete extraordinaire

Sarnia's very own superwoman is set to be recognized for her many athletic accomplishments.

Carolyne Prevost, 29, is a professional hockey player, she has won 11 national championships across hockey, taekwondo, soccer and ball hockey, and most recently, she finished 13th overall in the world at the 2019 CrossFit Games in Wisconsin.

To celebrate Prevost's achievements, and to help her with her future goals, Centre Culturel Francophone Jolliet is hosting a community gathering late Saturday afternoon from the Francophone Community Centre, with Prevost being the guest of honour.

Centre President Patrice Dufour said the event will honour one of the greatest athletes to ever come from Sarnia-Lambton.

"We'll have displays of all of Carolyne's medals, and it's crazy because we have nine tables full of medals and trophies. We'll have her jersey when she played for Team Canada Hockey, all kinds of articles, and we'll reveal the plaque and the banner to make sure she's always present at school."

Prevost, a Saint-François-Xavier School grad, continues to pursue her athletic goals, while also working as a high school teacher in the GTA.

Dufour said they'll be collecting donations at the event to support those goals.

"Well when I heard how much it was last year to participate in those world games, her expenses were like $8,000, so I said maybe while we're doing the event we can ask for donations at the door, and I'm sure she will appreciate any sort of donation we can do."

Saturday night's event goes from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Francophone Community Centre at 901 Rapids Parkway Sarnia.
