Two charged after OPP recover stolen vehicle in Petrolia

Lambton OPP arrested and charged two men after officers located a stolen vehicle and were taken on a brief foot chase in Petrolia this week.

On Monday, members of the Emergency Response Team (ERT) found the vehicle parked at a residence and then attempted to block it from leaving.

The driver was initially able to flee from police before being located a short distance later when it struck a curb, causing the vehicle to stall.

The driver and a passenger then fled the vehicle and were later arrested by ERT and general patrol.

Police said a search of the vehicle led to the seizure of stolen property from multiple jurisdictions, break and enter instruments, a large quantity of dried cannabis, and shotgun shells.

Kenneth Lewis, 38, of no fixed address and Brendan Recker, 31, of Alvinston are charged with multiple counts of possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000, possession obtained by crime over $5,000, possession of break-in instruments, possession of firearm or ammunition contrary to prohibition order, and possessing cannabis for the purpose of selling.

Lewis faces additional charges of driving while under suspension, dangerous operation, flight from a peace officer, two counts of operation while prohibited, and theft under $5,000.

Both were being held pending a bail hearing.
