Legionnaires defeat Komoka for fifth straight win

The Sarnia Legionnaires have now won five games in a row.

Rookie Jett Morningstar scored a hat trick and added an assist as the Legionnaires beat the visiting Komoka Kings 6-4 in GOJHL hockey action Thursday.

Joe Ferrera and Nolan DeGurse each had a goal and two assists. Jake Vince rounded out the scoring with a goal and a helper.

The Legionnaires led 2-1 after the first period, and 4-3 after two frames. Komoka tied the game 4-4 early in the third, but Morningstar sealed the win with four minutes remaining and completed the hat-trick with an empty netter.

Ian Lutowitz, Luc Arsenault, Cameron Welch, and Joey Studnicka scored for the Kings.

Legionnaires goalie Nolan DeKoning turned aside seven of eight shots before exiting the game with what appeared to be a groin injury.

Jakob Knowles stopped 24 of 27 shots in relief.

Caron Boutin made 32 saves on 37 shots faced in his debut for the Kings. He was recently acquired from the Cochrane Crunch of the NOJHL.

Sarnia is now fifth place in the Western Conference with an 8-7-1-2 record and 19 points.

The Legionnaires are back in action on Sunday in Leamington before hosting St. Thomas November 14.
